Compound Description	Lansoprazole is a member of benzimidazoles, a member of pyridines and a sulfoxide. It has a role as an EC 3.6.3.10 /K-exchanging ATPase) inhibitor and an anti-ulcer drug. Lansoprazole marketed under the brand Prevacid, is a proton pump inhibitor and is structurally classified as a substituted benzimidazole. It reduces gastric acid secretion by targeting gastric H,K-ATPase pumps and is thus effective at promoting healing in ulcerative diseases, and treating gastroesophageal reflux disease along with other pathologies caused by excessive acid secretion. Lansoprazole is a Proton Pump Inhibitor. The mechanism of action of lansoprazole is as a Proton Pump Inhibitor. The physiologic effect of lansoprazole is by means of Inhibition Gastric Acid Secretion. Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor and a potent inhibitor of gastric acidity which is widely used in the therapy of gastroesophageal reflux and peptic ulcer disease. Dexlansoprazole is an isomer of lansoprazole that has a similar spectrum of activity and toxicities. Lansoprazole therapy is associated with a low rate of transient and asymptomatic serum aminotransferase elevations and is a reported, but very rare cause of clinically apparent liver injury. Lansoprazole is a substituted benzimidazole prodrug with selective and irreversible proton pump inhibitor activity. Lansoprazole prodrug is converted to an active sulfonamide derivative in the acidic environment of the gastric parietal cell; the sulfonamide derivative binds to the gastric proton pump H+/K+ ATPase and forms a stable disulfide bond with the sulfhydryl group near the potassium-binding site on the luminal side, resulting in inactivation of the ATPase and a reduction in gastric acid secretion. This agent does not have anticholinergic or histamine H2 -receptor antagonistic properties. A 2,2,2-trifluoroethoxypyridyl derivative of timoprazole that is used in the therapy of STOMACH ULCERS and ZOLLINGER-ELLISON SYNDROME. The drug inhibits H-K-EXCHANGING ATPASE which is found in GASTRIC PARIETAL CELLS. Lansoprazole is a racemic mixture of - and -isomers.
